Sometimes grandmas teach their grandchildren how to knit, or we learn by watching video tutorials or reading books. Not me!
My third grade teacher taught me how to knit as part of a lesson about different ways to give back to the community. Each student in the class got a pair of knitting needles and yarn and once a week we would all pull our chairs into a circle to knit scarves to donate to organizations that helped the needy in our community.
And the rest is history…I’ve been knitting ever since! I love buying yarn and finding fun new projects to make, but the partial balls of yarn you’re left with after a project can be tricky to use, but at the same time I don’t want to waste them. I’m proud to have come up with a new project that brings my knitting story full circle, The Extra Yarn Project!
With The Extra Yarn Project, I’ll be using my extra yarn to create knit items, such as hats, scarves and mittens, to donate to organizations that are in need of these items. I love to give back in any way that I can, and what better way to do so than by doing something I love? I’m really excited for a project that will never be completely finished and one that will help many!
